Nervöse Maschinen
Installation
2012

The title of the installation refers to a lecture by Heinz von Förster about learning in
conjunction with the System Theory. In this lecture he is speaking about the paradox
that we are only aware of what we know, if we (just) cannot remember it. He distinguishes
„trivial machines“ who simply re-act to a pulse and „non-trivial machine“, who are
’nervous‘ or ‚intelligent‘ in other words. In this context, nervous means situationally intelligent:
They (the machines) respond with their inner state to their environment and are
therefore a mystery, not only for the environment, but also for themselves. Taking this
as an approach, I have created several object-situations within one week, trying to react directly
to the relation between my environment and my inner states.
